Christmas Orienteering Cup 2022

Quality Areas and Good Courses in Central Scotland from Masterplan Adventure

Thank you to everyone for coming!

Congratulations to the overall winners:

Long: Aidan Smith and Alison O’Neil, Medium: Yokub Hampshire-Wright and Alison Cunningham and Short: Terry O’Brien and Lucy Ward. We have chocolate oranges for you all which we sadly didn’t manage to give you yesterday, but you can collect them at, for example, EUOC’s Big Weekend. (And if you think we’ve made a mistake in calculating these, it is entirely possible, just get in touch).

Final Details and Start Lists

  • Final Details. Updated 27/12.
  • Start Lists – Google Sheets
    • Late entries to date (6pm 27th Dec) now included. People who entered together (i.e. families) have been given similar start times. Efforts have been made to distribute early/late evenly over the 3 forest days, and to give people from England late starts on Day 1 and early starts on Day 3 if they are travelling back then. On the day, a punch will be used at the start, so there is scope for last minute adjustment if needed.
  • Start Lists – PDF (updated 6pm 27th Dec)

Programme

Thursday 29th December – Day 1 – Dundurn
Friday 30th December – Day 2 – Edinchip

Overview Map

Courses

Long – 35mins for Elite Men (14 mins for sprint)
Medium – 80% long
Short – 60% long
Orange (same as Short on Day 4)
Yellow (not on Day 4) (also now not on Day 3 – received no entries)

Terrain

Dundurn

First mapped for the Scottish 6 Days in 2019, this is fantastic area of intricate contour and rock detail, located in beautiful scenery at the Eastern end of Loch Earn, next to St Fillans Golf Club.

Edinchip

Like Dundurn, first mapped for the 6 Days in 2019, but this area has not been used since! We will mostly focus on the gently sloping semi-open slope above the A84, rather than the tougher and more exposed open moorland to the West.

Fairy Knowe & Doon Hill
A completely different section than that used for the British and Scottish Relays in 2021, this part is comprised of a tricky area of light green pine forest and faster forested hill.

Resolution Sprint
Celebrate Hogmanay in Edinburgh then roll out of bed and kick off the new year with some more orienteering! The plan is a double header in the Niddrie area, using the newly mapped and never-before-used section North of Niddrie Mains Rd.

Start Times

From 10:30am each day. For Day 1, last start will be 12:30pm. For Days 2 and 3, it may be earlier depending on entry numbers.

Entries

Online via SiEntries. Late entries are open until Wed 28th Dec or until we run out of maps!
